New Homes Week 2025 - Calling on the Community
Mon 03 Feb 2025
This week we are celebrating New Homes Week 2025. This year's theme is Community, highlighting the positive impact of new build developments on local areas and the sense of belonging they create.
It’s interesting to reflect on how the essence of village life has evolved over time. I think many people share that nostalgic feeling of visiting the local butcher or post office with family. Those small, community-oriented spaces used to be at the heart of daily life, offering more than just goods and services—they were places for social connection.
As villages change and traditional facilities fade, there’s a clear shift towards creating new types of communities that still aim to foster that sense of connection, albeit in a more modern way.
Developers like Big Sky Living seem to be leading the way in adapting to this change, with projects like St Giles Park that focus not just on housing but on creating spaces for people to engage, exercise, and interact. Sports pavilions, football pitches, and pre-school nurseries are all valuable assets to a community, and they provide a foundation for the neighborhood to thrive.

It’s also great that there’s a focus on a wide range of housing types, which ensures that people at different life stages, whether they are first-time buyers, young families, or retirees, can all find a place that suits them. Access to transport, nearby hospitals, universities, and urban hubs like Norwich makes it a practical choice too.
While there will always be some resistance to change, it seems that when developers prioritise community well-being, these types of projects can have a real positive impact.
