Kath Whitrow joins Brown&Co’s Banbury office

Experienced banker and farmer Kath Whitrow has joined Brown&Co’s agricultural business consultancy team as the firm expands its operations in Wales.

Kath will work alongside James Brown and Non Thorne to provide consultancy advice to farmers in Wales and the Western Counties.

With nearly four decades of experience in banking, where she specialised in agriculture and farm diversifications for the last 15 years, she offers a depth and breadth of expertise.

Commenting on her arrival, James Brown said: “Kath’s deep knowledge and experience will be a real asset to the team in Banbury, and to Brown&Co more widely. We’re delighted to welcome her to the team and I’m sure she will quickly become an invaluable member of our department.”

With a wealth of experience in agricultural banking, Kath will be able to advise on banking matters, pursuing loans and general agricultural consultancy, including preparation of budgets and forward financial projections.

She is also an active farmer, running a hefted closed flock of 1,000 hill ewes and 50 suckler cows on 550 acres of uplands in the Brecon Beacons in partnership with her son, Alex.

They finish all their stock and market these through local marts and abattoirs; beef, lamb and pork are also sold direct to local restaurants and consumers through their enterprise, Green Acre Foods.

As well as their son, Kath and her husband, Ian, have a daughter, Lowri, who is in her final year of teacher training.

Kath plays an active role in the wider farming industry, as Chair of the NFU Cymru Less Favoured Areas Board, which gives her a close insight into Welsh farming policy. She is also an Associate of the Council for Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies (CARAS).

With a keen interest in millinery, she has a collection of more than 1,000 hats and fascinators which she hires out for weddings, race days and other special events.
