Spirit of Purllant Award - 2023 Winner Announced

Last week, at our Annual Brown&Co Internal Conference, the winner of our 2023 Spirit of Purllant Award was announced.

The award was created in memory of our late Partner, Chris Purllant, who sadly passed away in 2020 from Motor Neurone Disease. Known for his kind nature, jolly charisma and excellent auctioneering skills, the award was created for individuals across the firm who go above and beyond their work duties to be there for their colleagues when they need them and show an exceptional personal contribution to the firm outside of their professional duties.

Last year's winner, Derek Jackson, alongside Senior Partner, Robert Fairey, were on hand to announce the winner. 

This year the trophy was awarded to Steve Willerton from our Bury St Edmunds office 'for the positive impact he makes, daily, on his colleague’s lives'.

During the announcement, quotes from the nomination form submitted by Steve's colleagues were read out, which included:

The individual we would like to nominate for the ‘Spirit of Purllant’ Award has dedicated nearly 20 years to Brown&Co, and would be considered by many as an extension to their own family for the dedication and goodwill extended to each and every person he knows within the firm.

Despite his reduced working days to three days per week, he will always be at the other end of the phone if any colleagues require advice and guidance when he is not at work, and it is these qualities that demonstrate how kind, generous and attentive our nominee is.

Whether it is someone’s first day or a colleague he has known for his near 20 years at Brown&Co, he will always make conversation and wish to have a positive impact on each and everyone’s day.

The individual we wish to nominate has a reputation extending beyond East Anglia with both clients and professionals alike and has also advised Brown&Co partners and colleagues with their professional needs as well. Often clients are amazed by the attention to detail he includes within his reports, and he always has a waiting list of work, which is recognition of his professionalism in the industry.
